The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh is part school, hospital, and foster and adoption resource center for students with special health needs and disabilities. As the Marketing Intern, I had the privilege of supporting their mission to improve the lives of those children and their families through writing.

Magazine Article SummariesThe Children's Institute produces a bi-annual magazine called Amazing Kids Magazine. I wrote this piece to summarize each article in the title page to entice readers to learn more. After reading each article, I captured the main idea in an informative and exciting summary.

One SheetThis one sheet outlines the Project STAR program. I edited the text for grammatical errors and updated the information. Using Adobe InDesign, I placed the information in a logical order and formatted the picture and text.

Fundraising EmailThe Children's Institute participated in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community to raise money. I wrote a letter to the parents of The Day School students encouraging them to create a team to rally around their student's story. In the email I described step-by-step directions to create a team and descriptions of other ways to get involved.

The communications and marketing department at The Children's Institute sends internal emails to inform staff of current news stories involving patients, students, staff or volunteers. To draft this email, I researched the story, summarized it to engage the staff and provided a link to learn more.

During my internship, The Children's Institute began providing a new therapy for children with sensory integration difficulties. I updated the website with a description of sensory integration, signs of sensory integration difficulties, and the therapy's approach. To accurately describe each topic, I collaborated with the therapist and researched the topic.

The Children's Institute also obtained a new biofeedback system for speech therapy. To update the website about the new technology, I researched the system and was advised by the speech therapist.
The Children's Institute participated in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community in May of 2015. For the news and events section of the website, I outlined the different ways to be involved for any commitment level and included links to encourage direct action.
